Donna Summer’s Estate Accuses Kanye West Of Copyright Infringement Following The Release Of His Joint Album ‘Vultures’

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s latest collaboration, ‘Vultures,’ has finally made its way to the public after several delays. However, the release has sparked controversy, particularly with the estate of the legendary Donna Summer. The late disco queen’s representatives have publicly accused West of copyright infringement for unauthorized use of Summer’s iconic track “I Feel Love” in the album.

In a candid Instagram Story, Donna Summer’s estate expressed their frustration, stating, “Kanye West sought permission to use Donna Summer’s song ‘I Feel Love,’ [and] was denied. Despite this, he altered the lyrics, then had another artist re-record it or utilized AI technology to mimic it. The result is a clear case of ‘I Feel Love.’ This constitutes copyright infringement.” The estate didn’t hold back, tagging not only West and Ty Dolla $ign but also Sharon Osbourne in their message, drawing attention to the broader issue of artists’ rights and unauthorized sample use.

This incident marks the third notable instance where artists or their estates have publicly declared that West did not obtain permission for their music’s use. Previously, Ozzy Osbourne criticized West for the unauthorized use of “War Pigs,” although the post has since been removed. Rumors have also surfaced about the Backstreet Boys resisting West’s use of their 1997 hit, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” and Nicki Minaj declined to clear her verse for the leaked track “New Body.”

As ‘Vultures’ navigates its way through the music world, West and Ty Dolla $ign may face significant legal challenges due to these copyright infringement claims. Music fans and industry observers are keenly watching to see how this situation unfolds, especially considering the legal implications for artists’ rights and copyright law.
