Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024: Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne and Mariah Carey among nominees

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 nominations have been officially announced, featuring an eclectic mix of artists including Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne, and Mariah Carey. This year’s list also includes other remarkable talents such as Sinead O’Connor, Cher, Sade, Mary J. Blige, Jane’s Addiction, and A Tribe Called Quest, along with Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang, and Lenny Kravitz.

Artists and bands become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording. This year marks the first nomination for many on the list, including Oasis, Osbourne as a solo artist, Carey, O’Connor, Cher, Sade, Frampton, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang, and Kravitz. Notably, Ozzy Osbourne has previously been inducted as part of Black Sabbath, but this year he receives a nod for his solo career, a recognition his wife Sharon Osbourne has passionately advocated for.

Sharon Osbourne has expressed her dissatisfaction with the Hall of Fame’s past oversight of Ozzy’s solo achievements, stating last year, “I will never beg. And I will never ask for favours I’ve never asked anyone for a favour,” emphasizing her point with, “So, my thing is fuck you if you don’t realize that somebody really deserves to be here. And you don’t recognize that? Then, see ya!”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s recognition of these artists not only honors their individual contributions to music but also acknowledges their influence on the genre’s evolution. The inclusion of such a diverse group of nominees highlights the Hall of Fame’s commitment to celebrating the broad spectrum of rock and roll music, from its roots to its contemporary forms.

Fans and the music industry alike eagerly await the announcement of this year’s inductees, as the nominations alone have sparked excitement and speculation. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame continues to serve as a testament to the enduring legacy and dynamic future of rock and roll music.
